Funfetti Sprinkle Tres Leches Cake
About this recipe
Funfetti cake is a ball of fun – there’s no denying that! I honestly don’t know why it’s not more popular here in the UK because it’s the perfect dessert for any celebration. Whether it’s a kid’s party, or an anniversary, this cake will have everyone smiling and reaching for another slice. The best part? You can make it the day before and it’ll still be just as delicious. It’s super easy, moist, and juicy – exactly what you want in a cake.
Now, I know it’s tempting to grab a box mix for funfetti cake, but trust me, making it from scratch is the way to go. It’s surprisingly simple and so much more rewarding. The texture is light, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness, plus the sprinkles add that perfect pop of color. When you make it from scratch, you get to control everything from the batter to the sprinkles, and the end result is just so much better than anything you can get from a box.
What makes this Funfetti cake even more amazing is the tres leches twist. If you haven’t had a tres leches cake before, you’re in for a treat. Tres leches translates to "three milks" and involves soaking the cake in a delicious combination of evaporated milk, condensed milk, and whole milk. This makes the cake super moist and juicy – it’s like biting into a cloud of sweetness. The sprinkles stay vibrant, and the whipped cream on top gives it that creamy, dreamy finish. It’s the ultimate dessert!
Why You’ll Love This Cake:
This Funfetti Tres Leches cake is everything you want in a celebration dessert. It’s easy to make, looks impressive, and is ridiculously moist thanks to the tres leches soak. Plus, the sprinkles make it so much fun – who doesn’t love a cake that looks as fun as it tastes? You can make it the day before your party, let it soak in the fridge, and it’ll be even more flavorful when it’s time to serve. That means less stress for you, and more time to enjoy the party.
It’s also a crowd-pleaser. Kids will love the colorful sprinkles, and adults will appreciate the rich, creamy texture of the cake. It’s light, but still indulgent, and the whipped cream topping gives it a smooth finish that balances out the sweetness perfectly. Seriously, if you’re looking for a cake that everyone will rave about, this is it.
How to Make It:
Making this cake is easier than you might think. You start by baking the funfetti cake – which, by the way, smells amazing while it’s in the oven. Once it’s baked, you let it cool a little, then poke holes in it and pour over the tres leches milk mixture. Let it soak in for about 10 minutes, and then top it off with whipped cream and more sprinkles for that extra flair. You can even make it a day ahead and let the cake soak up all that delicious milk overnight. The result? A perfectly moist cake that’s ready to wow your guests.
Serving Suggestions:
This Funfetti Tres Leches cake is perfect on its own, but you can serve it with a little extra sprinkle of sprinkles on top or even a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce if you’re feeling extra indulgent. It’s also great with a hot cup of tea or a cold glass of milk. It’s one of those cakes that’s perfect for every occasion, whether you’re serving it at a birthday party, an anniversary celebration, or just a casual get-together.
Bakefriendly Sprinkles:
When making a Funfetti cake, using bake-friendly sprinkles is key for ensuring that the sprinkles hold up well during baking. Bake-friendly sprinkles are specifically designed to maintain their color and texture when exposed to heat, so they won’t melt into the batter or lose their vibrancy. These sprinkles are typically more heat-resistant than regular sprinkles, which means they’ll keep their shape and add those beautiful pops of color throughout the cake, even after baking.
In the UK, you might be tempted to use “hundreds and thousands,” which are the common sprinkles found in most stores. However, they aren’t always ideal for baking. Regular hundreds and thousands are often made with ingredients that can melt or dissolve under heat, which can lead to a messy, discolored cake. While they’ll still add a bit of color, they won’t give you that bright, cheerful sprinkle effect that makes Funfetti cake so special.
That’s why it’s important to opt for bake-friendly sprinkles instead. These are the sprinkles that will retain their color and shape, making sure your Funfetti cake stays as fun and vibrant as possible from start to finish!
